New Years resolution?
2025 has been here for 21 days. Did you have a New Years resolution? If so, how is your progress so far? New Years resolutions can be difficult because we sometimes put a lot of pressure on ourselves to instantly change and/or adapt a new habit or drop an old habit.
I also ask the question, why wait for a new year to change something? I believe for most people, the change in year is a reflection point and it is more likely for people to have introspection on their lives (especially the past year) when the year comes to an end.
I believe the best way to go about your New Years resolution, is to not just say what it is your doing to change, but have a plan as to how you are going to implement that change, and have it detailed.
For example, If your New Years resolution is to go to the gym 3 times a week, we need to break that down. (apply these points to whatever your New Years resolution is)
Time - When will I have the time to go to the gym? Create a schedule for your gym time
Finances - Which fitness club fits into my budget?
Why - Why do I want to go to the gym? (lose weight? Gain muscle? Look better? Feel better? Make it specific
Motivation - What do I do when gym day comes and I don’t feel like going?
If you struggle with motivation, you need to refer back to your “why” and make sure it is a big enough “why” to motivate you.
Having a workout partner is also a great Idea, someone to keep you accountable
Whatever your New Years resolution is, do it the best you can. If it is too much change and you struggle, try modifying it to make it work for you. At the end of the day, keep goal setting for yourself.
Even if you only make a little progress, it is better than no progress at all
Be well
