5 Things I Learned Living In Sedona Arizona

Sedona Arizona is known for its natural beauty as the red rocks encapsulate your senses in every direction you look and the energy of the vortex and the collective consciousness makes you feel like you’re living in a dream.

1. You don’t have to have a plan right away

In life, we want to check off boxes and build stability in housing, finances, career, etc. This is normal and practical, and important for living. When people are called to Sedona, they don’t always know what they are going to do, they just know they are meant to be there, to travel there. You don’t have to have a plan or a schedule micromanaging your life. The laid back nature and the heart space centered individuals will eventually give you the road map through conversations, activities, and adventure.

2. Be of Value

Collaboration

In life, sometimes we are in it for ourselves. How do I get what I want? How do I make more money? How do I raise my status in the world? Sometimes we put all the burden on ourselves and push others aside in the pursuit of said goal. What I learned is that everything is an exchange. An exchange of reciprocation and energy. In life, we need others to get to where we want to be. We actually can’t do everything ourselves. There is a collective understanding in the heart of the Sedona collective that understands this mutual value exchange. Helping others. Being of Service. Understanding that what we do for others, we are actually doing for ourselves. When we provide value to others, value is reciprocated to us in the same way we offered it.

3. Jump in the creek

As the waters flow down the mountains from Flagstaff, through the canyon into Sedona and the Verde Valley, they are as cold as the weather is hot. They are Crystal clear and is naturally filtered through artesian springs, which removes contaminants while retaining minerals. Jump in the creek! On a hot day after a long hike in triple digit temperatures, finding a secret creek entrance is one of the most rewarding and best feelings in the world. Your body is rejuvenated from the healing nature of the water and you feel refreshed as the cold water hits your skin. The relaxation, clarity, and peace of mind after a cold dip into Oak creek in and around Sedona will leave you in a state of bliss. Don’t be afraid of the cold, it will be worth it.

4. Vulernability

In life, often times we want to stay in our little box of the simple and mundane. We sometimes don’t care to try new things because we haven’t done it before or we feel like it would be weird to do something out of the ordinary. During my time in Sedona, I stepped out of my comfort zone and participated in things I never thought I would. This includes campfire freestyle rap from our heart space where everyone had a turn to sing about whatever came to mind. Estatic Dance on the red rocks where you let your body move in whatever direction you felt it needed to without judgement form yourself or others. Even doing a rain dance (which worked!) with a bunch of hippies doing the same thing the ancient tribes of Sedona did centuries ago. Being vulnerable and engaging in these activities opens yourself up to new awareness about yourself and your heart space. It allows you to let go of the programming of who you think you are or who you think you need to be and allows you to bond with others from a genuine level more and more.

5. Say Yes!

When you come to Sedona, especially if you previously lived in a big city or come from a structured environment, you understand you have arrived to a place like no other. Things are much more fluid and in the moment in terms of decision making and what’s next. Everyday you’d wake up and have a plethora of options as to what you could be a part of and explore. This goes back to the vulnerability topic. There was always an event, a drum circle, a mediation, a dance, a hike, a show, a new guru in town. Everyday was an adventure and you sometimes felt like it was too good to be true. I said yes!, and “why not?” to all of it. Doing this allows to to meet new and fascinating people, explore different ways of living, new perspectives, and leads to new opportunities. If you have the chance to do something new, take a chance and at least try it once, sometimes you don’t know what you’re saying No to!
